How to use facebook in technology transfer?

Whether a research team or a technology transfer office, anyone interested in knowledge transfer from academia to industry can use the internet facebook social network among its communication strategy to reach a wider audience.

The phenomenon of social networking sites grows exponentially in terms of interest and members. Some experts speak of millions of participants worldwide who use them daily as a business tool, apart from entertainment.

In this sense, is not negligible to begin work on this new media a privileged channel for commercialization of research and technology.

Creating a technology transfer profile on facebook may be useful, for example, to:

  • Explain the mission, work areas and organizational goals.
  • Disseminate research and technology (patents, research capabilities, services, etc.).
  • Share images and videos of members and relevant technologies.
  • Comment about current news related to the organisation.
  • Establish relationships with potential clients.

A good facebook technology transfer example is the use made by ATTC (Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network), a technology transfer network in the area of drug that has a facebook profile, which certainly complements its communication strategy.
